HOW TO PROGRAM YOUR TRAINING SO YOU DON'T PLATEAU

Let’s talk programming your training for optimal results!

If you only read one paragraph of this post read this next one: Your results are based on continued progression throughout a program.

This means you are focused on getting stronger in the correct rep ranges over a training block or phase. This is why circuit training, Tabata and other cardio based training a lot of you guys and girls are doing doesn’t work well in getting you lean. It’s also why the people who rock up to the gym and do a different workout each day to ‘confuse the body’ don’t get results.

Random training = Random results

These methods don’t work because there’s no means of progression in these training styles. The best training method for fat loss is the one that focuses on building muscle. To build muscle you need progression. You need to challenge your muscles more each session. Star jumps and burpees won’t do this.

Now once you have the right structured program for you. You should follow that program for as long as you are still making progress. People chop and change programs too frequently! The weeks that you are progressing are the weeks you’re actually getting results. So why would you go and change programs?

At Strength Lab we find the sweet spot for optimal progression to be 4-8 weeks. That’s why we write programs in 4-8 week blocks. If you follow a program for too long you will get diminished returns and if you don’t follow it long enough you are leaving results on the table. This organisation of programs into blocks and phases is known as ‘periodisation’.
